Trueline is a marketing firm and full-service marketing firm located in Portland, Maine. Founded by CEO Haj Carr, the company specializes in business-development strategy, content, graphic design, web design and SEO—among other services. Trueline’s clientele includes everyone from individuals and small businesses to international corporations and large nonprofit organizations.
Trueline Publishing, the company’s flagship publishing division, features trade magazines covering everything from construction and technology to executive leadership, finance and law. Organizations featured in Trueline’s journals include GM, Bayer, Waste Management, VMware and Dell—just to name a few.
In addition, Trueline touts a growing marketing arm, with a clientele that includes local businesses, large nonprofits and multinational corporations. Graphic and web design, content (both writing and editing), SEO and business development are just some of the services the company offers.
Trueline takes a truly collaborative approach to working with clients, involving team members from every department in the company.
When Trueline first opened for business in 2007, the country was experiencing the largest economic downturn in a generation. It didn’t help that the company’s flagship journal (U.S. Builders Review) was focused on one of America’s hardest-hit sectors: building and construction.
For CEO Haj Carr, the challenge was to convince these companies to embrace, rather than abandon, their marketing efforts. What better way to set yourself apart from the pack than a well-written story highlighting your company’s accomplishments?
The message got through. U.S. Builders Review took off. More journals soon followed, and by 2010, the year the company moved to Portland, Trueline had emerged a leader in custom media.
Since then, the company’s profile has only grown—much like its clientele—making it one of the most sought-after marketing firms in Maine.
In 2019, Trueline relocated to a new office space in the heart of downtown Portland (561 Congress Street), in the former home of the SALT Institute for Documentary Studies. Since then, the company has hosted a number of First Friday art shows, displaying the work of local and regional artists—and honoring the space’s artistic legacy.
Each year, Trueline staff are invited on a rafting trip along the Kennebec River in Northern Maine. The company also hosts an annual holiday party in downtown Portland.
Trueline has been honored as one of the “Best Places to Work in Maine” four years running. In addition to great pay and benefits, company perks include a ping-pong room, on-site parking, occasional happy hours and one of the best office environments around.
